Dialogues for the Healing of Racism
Purpose: to create a safe environment where the historical and current systemic patterns of racism can be discussed in a candid and open atmosphere. This dialogue seeks to create an environment in which all can address each other in a spirit of open and honest discussion, free of blame and victimization.
Dialogues for the Healing of Racism is founded in the belief that racism is the most powerful and persistent obstacle to the attainment of a just and peaceful society. This dialogue recognizes the essential oneness of the human race; that all beings share common ancestors; and that all of us share the responsibility to realize in our personal and social live the oneness of humanity.
Topics for learning, discussion, and evaluation include:
- Defining prejudice and racism
- How racism is perpetuated - early childhood experiences, misinformation and segregation
- Historical context of racism
- Using the BIAS-R© to evaluate internalized messages about racism
- Institutionalized Racism - examples of its presence in the systems that affect us daily - media, legal, school, healthcare and economics.
- Leading a new frontier - now what do we do?
This workshop is available in a 1 or 2 day format and can be tailored to meet the goals of your organization.
